At Sancta Familia Center for Integrative Medicine, we are sensitive to our patients experiencing acute and chronic illness. Stress has a deleterious effect on the body and the brain.
That’s right, emotional and mental stresses lead to problems with physical health as well as brain health. Chronic stress on the brain leads understandably to sleep disturbance, anxiety, depression, decreased cognitive function, poor memory and other brain dysfunction.
However, it also leads to weakened immune function, poorer GI function, fatigue, muscle tension, pain and other negative physical effects.
In fact, the brain may be responding in an unhealthy way that is increasing the physical effects of illness or infection. Stress is pro-inflammatory and chronic stress results in a persistent fight or flight response that shuts down effective immune function.
Addressing the healing needs of the brain right away optimizes the response to medical strategies in patients with complex, chronic illnesses, such as Lyme Disease, PANS/PANDAS, and ASD.Active ways of reducing stress, such as regular physical activity, deep breathing or other relaxation techniques, listening to music, hobbies and spending time with friends and family are all part of integrative management; however, at times may be taxing or hard to organize.
For someone chronically ill or experiencing acute or chronic stress, this is a small commitment with a big upside including:
In other words, we see faster restoration of more optimal mental and physical function in patients utilizing The Listening Program.
In cases of people with neurodevelopmental disorders we consistently see improvements in or acquisition of new developmental, language, social, emotional and academic skills. In our population of patients, TLP is really a go-to therapy to help our patients progress and heal faster.
