Helping autistic students in their educational journey

When Sandy Rizzo Weiner, Ph. D., an Educational Consultant with Customized Interventions in Fort Lauderdale, FL and an Advanced Brain Technologies Provider, added The Listening Program® to her work with a local high school student diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, she knew it would make a difference for him. Just how big of a difference it made was a surprise to everyone, and truly shows the power of The Listening Program®.

“TLP is helping me process information for homework and studying for the ACT in February. Also, it’s improving my social skills like talking and making conversations. It helps me with that aspect of my life,” said Jeffrey Schour, 18, who has only been training on TLP Achieve since November 2016. In two short months, he has made significant gains in his reading ability, allowing Dr. Rizzo to work with him on other areas that need to be addressed.

“I decided to add this therapy to his academic program to complement other interventions,” Dr. Rizzo said.

“He needs to improve his auditory processing, social skills and language as well as reading comprehension and test taking skills. When he was younger, his parents had him do a similar program and they reported good results.”

“I met Jeffrey through the social skills program (BRIDGES) that HDS Foundation created with my collaboration. This summer the parents contacted me to begin working with Jeffrey on his reading comprehension skills in my private practice.”

The progress they were making caught the eye of the local ABC affiliate, which ran a feature story on the topic. With professionals such as Dr. Rizzo a part of the Advanced Brain Technologies family, we will continue to make life-changing improvements in the lives of children and teens to become more independent and self-sufficient.
