For anyone with PTSD looking for a lasting, natural solution to live a more fulfilled life, The Listening Program® (TLP) provides hope through music.
While many people have experienced the benefits of The Listening Program, it’s important to note the effectiveness of TLP is more than anecdotal. TLP was founded on scientific principles as an evidence-based method since its inception in 1999.
Numerous scientific, peer-reviewed research articles have brought evidence into the equation to support the positive outcomes music listening therapy can bring into a person’s life who is struggling with PTSD, insomnia, and other emotional, mental, and physical concerns.
TLP stimulates the specific brain and autonomic nervous regions to bring self-regulation processes back into balance while reducing the production of stress hormones. Music is proven to activate the brain’s reward system to achieve more optimal mental performance.
Sounds, language, and music can affect the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems. When the sympathetic system has been activated due to danger, stress, discomfort, or annoyance, listening is compromised because the ear’s mechanism for receiving input, particularly the middle ear muscles, does not work well.
Listening to music can contribute significantly to social engagement. The relationship between auditory system function and poor engagement is frequently seen in individuals with PTSD.
A sense of safety and comfort, along with an optimally functioning auditory system, both of which are primary goals related to TLP use, are among key contributors to social engagement and are related to the physiological and behavioral foundations provided by the autonomic nervous system.
TLP can help support stress management, relaxation, mental acuity, and general wellness through structured protocols of specifically produced music for 15-minutes daily, five days per week in a relaxed, home-based environment.
Many veterans face problems with PTSD and stress. The numbers are staggering, and sadly, only 50% of veterans ever seek treatment.
Formal trials were conducted at the Cleveland Veterans Administration Military Clinic (VAMC.) to determine the benefits of TLP. Veterans used TLP regularly and were given standardized tests to mark any improvements across various areas of daily function. The tests showed clinically significant outcomes.
In one trial, 100% of the veterans showed improved heart rate variability, increased autonomic nervous system function, and improved stress resilience in just eight weeks. The participants also demonstrated reduced stress/burnout and depression as they listened to the music-based treatment.
Music has real health benefits. It boosts dopamine, lowers cortisol and it makes us feel great. Your brain is better on music.
— Alex Doman, Author of Healing at the Speed of Sound
Kenneth desired to start genuinely healing, but the burdens of his daily life felt too heavy to explore any meaningful options or research to know what was available and where to begin. While he was given access to a psychologist, placed on medication, and had an emotional support dog, it wasn’t enough to help him heal from the emotional and mental scars of serving his country.
Before starting TLP, Kenneth described his situation: “Right now, my service dog of 14 years is struggling, a friend passed away from suicide, and insomnia is an extreme problem. My stress is off the charts. I feel depressed, sad, frustrated, anxious, all wrapped up into one.”
“The saying, ‘You can’t teach an old dog new tricks,’ was wrong in my case. I dove into TLP headfirst. I don’t know that I’ve ever had a more pleasurable experience. I knew something special was happening to my brain. I had such overwhelming anxiety and fear that I couldn’t see how something so enjoyable could provide the benefits and relief I longed for. I progressively started to see changes in the way I looked at things. I was learning and relearning in all aspects of my life.”

Fortunately, at that time, Kenneth was introduced to a specialized music program; something that gave him a glimmer of hope that change could be possible for him. That hope led Kenneth towards a path of healing, and like many other aspects of life, it wasn’t as linear as he imagined, but the benefits he saw were unmistakable.
Upon finishing the initial 7-day free trial, Kenneth felt excited to enjoy the whole experience of The Listening Program and progress through all 200 modules over five months, listening twice daily for 15 minutes.
TLP Monitoring Note
After moving through the more advanced portion of TLP, Kenneth started noticing how well his conversations were going with his psychologist. He is talking about getting off prescriptive medications that treat symptoms because he wants to be truly well. He recalled a very stressful event as a very young child and realized he had been living with fear throughout his life. These memories and realizations are just coming to him as a result of the training in the TLP Orange Zone.

Having suffered from PTSD and TBI for nearly half a century as a result of my combat experience in Vietnam, I had given up all hope that I would ever feel normal again. Thanks to the team at Advanced Brain Technologies and their Veteran Reset Listening Protocols that is no longer the case. Combat veterans long for one thing, peace of mind along with a quiet night’s sleep. Thank you Advanced Brain Technologies for giving me my life back.
— Gary Ferguson, Combat Veteran (Tet 67-68)
Kenneth’s inspiration continued to grow as he started seeing and feeling changes in himself, just as it has for other veterans. For people like Kenneth and Gary, change can seem out of reach after trying so many different forms of treatment and still feeling so burdened. The outcomes demonstrated in formal studies and the research that informed the design of TLP, help turn even a glimmer of hope from veterans into evidence of healing in many different aspects of life.
Executive FunctionExecutive function is commonly known to be a set of mental skills that allow one to anticipate outcomes and adapt to changing situations. The right music can train the brain. Many people notice that their short-term working memory improves over time, making it easier to follow directions. They can focus and concentrate longer, which is especially important for work performance. Their organization skills improve to manage time and accomplish more with less stress.
Stress ReductionThe specifically composed music of TLP can help listeners address the ability to effectively cope with stress, reduce nervous habits, and decrease feelings of overwhelm. Because TLP stimulates new neural connections, it’s natural to experience feelings of relaxation and emotional regulation long after each daily listening session. These feelings are well documented in formal studies, showing it’s more than just a feeling. But it is an actual change in stress.
Using The Listening Program provided by Advanced Brain Technologies is way beyond what I was expecting. Little did I know that my depression and anxiety would become less and less. I now find that I no longer react to stressful situations and can remain calm and respond later without causing an incident and upsetting people I love. Thank you Advanced Brain Technologies for helping me to become more present to my wife and children.
— Will Brewe, Disabled Veteran
Multiple studies have shown the benefits of TLP on stress reduction. The results of these interventions have been published in numerous scholarly, peer-reviewed research journals demonstrating significant outcomes in patients within six months. To name just two: The Canadian Center of Science and Education Journal publication, published on the 30th of July 2015, and the International Journal of Therapy and Rehabilitation, published on the 18th of November 2014, provide clinically significant outcomes as seen in this infographic.
CommunicationStress and anxiety can negatively impact the ability to communicate thoughts and feelings effectively. It’s common for people with PTSD to develop stutters, social anxiety, or a general difficulty expressing their thoughts due to this stress.
TLP can help improve receptive and expressive comprehension, oral & written communication, voice quality, and reading comprehension, allowing a person to be better understood by others.
Improve Sensory ProcessingSensitivity to noise is prevalent among veterans and others with PTSD, who have strong emotional or physical reactions to unexpected, loud, or lasting noise.
The specially designed music of TLP helps listeners improve the ability to interpret and respond to sensory stimulation from the environment, reducing anxiety and over-responsitivity to sensations over time.
Social Anxiety & Emotional RegulationBy targeting specific parts of the brain and their related functions, TLP can help increase the ability to relate to others, manage emotions, resolve conflicts and understand and respond to social situations for improved self-confidence, social interactions, and mood regulation.
One aspect of emotional regulation is the ability to process past trauma. Until the brain is regulated, frequently, traumatic experiences remain inside as subconscious thoughts while still causing emotional or physical triggers.
Decrease Insomnia with Sleep GeniusWhile TLP can help improve sleep patterns by reducing stress and anxiety; people can get even more meaningful benefits with a different program called Sleep Genius.
Sleep Genius is a sound-based sleep aid used nightly to gently train your brain into natural healthy sleep rhythms. Your ears hear soothing music, but your brain hears scientifically developed neurosensory sounds helping you get to sleep faster, sleep deeper, and stay asleep longer, so you awake feeling refreshed. Sleep Genius is the most scientifically advanced sleep program in the world and was developed following research helping NASA get astronauts to sleep in space.
Sleep loss affects overall well-being and is a leading cause of many health factors, including obesity, heart disease, diabetes, alcoholism, life expectancy, mood disorders, suicide, anxiety, and immune dysfunction.
Many veterans who’ve used Sleep Genius say that when they sleep better, they feel better during the day and strengthen their relationships with their spouses and families due to better sleep.
Veterans face many challenges as they attempt to integrate into family and civilian life. Kenneth and other veterans have experienced real change through The Listening Program’s gentle, scientific, and enjoyable training firsthand and actively invite those around them to do the same.
Hope for healing is on the horizon, encourage the veterans in your life to try TLP free for seven days, just like Kenneth did, and give them a spark of hope that their future can be one of growth, happiness, and joy.
