ABT Provider June Rogers is Honored in the UK!

abtnews

We are so pleased for June Rogers MBE, who was awarded the Nursing Standard Child, Health Nurse of the Year 2011 Award at a sparkling black tie event in London on April 27, 2011.  June won the 2011 Award for her Liverpool Continence research using The Listening Program.

June is a specialist pediatric nurse and continence advisor and has worked with children with learning disabilities for over 30 years. Her experience led to her interest in continence promotion and toilet training because she felt this was a much neglected area.

June1_smToilet training their child is a developmental milestone that all parents strive for, but for some parents of children with special needs that milestone can seem unattainable. There is some misconception that children with learning difficulties and associated communication difficulties will not be suitable for toilet training. If it is delayed and then attempted at a later date there is often a degree of resistance and non compliance from the child, which just reinforces the belief that toilet training is not possible.

June has the ability to think outside the box while seeking innovative ways to help children meet this developmental milestone. Someone had mentioned hearing that apparently some children who had used The Listening Program® had stopped bed wetting, which made June want to know more. A meeting was arranged with Alan Heath, the head of Learning Solutions, our official representative for TLP in the UK to learn more about The Listening Program® and see if it was something that would be appropriate to introduce to the children on her caseload who were resistant to toilet training. After their discussion it seemed likely that TLP could potentially be of benefit and June trained to become an ABT certified provider of The Listening Program® so that she would be able to put the June2_smtest program in place.

June’s preliminary study, conducted early in 2009 can be found in the Science section of our website. read study>
